Beech
Fagus Sylvatica

This comes into the category of a large tree reaching over 40ft in height. Allow a large area for spacing/spread. This is one of the largest British trees, as many grow over 100ft and have a similar spread. It has a white grey bark and dark foliage. Good for autumn colour.

It prefers full sun. For English planting best to avoid acidic soil.

The nuts produced are often used as deer food and in some parts of Europe as animal fodder. However, they are not suitable for horses.
