Juniperus Communis

This comes into the category of small tree/shrub. Indeed, it often appears more shrub-like as it only reaches a height of around 6 feet. Difficult to describe, its branches have a delicate 'twiggy' appearance offset with numerous small leaves giving it a spiky look. It is most famously known for the berries it produces of the same name. The oil from the berries have many commercial uses; it has also been used for medicinal purposes.

It is often found where limestone is present in the soil.
