Glaucous Sedge
Carex Flacca
Carex is a well-known Latin definition of plants. It may also be referred to as Blue Sedge. This is an ornamental grass. It grows between 6 to 12 inches in height.
It produces 'spikes' - these densely clustered seed-like pods often look like a single 'spear' from a distance. The weight of these creates a display of 'nodding' stalks of brown/purple. It produces reddish black seeds in July and August. However, it is chosen for its foliage, which is a blue-green.
It is found in a variety of habitats, from open ground to grassland. It likes light if not full shade. It may be found on dry and wet grassland. However, it does not like to be over-watered, so place this plant a little further back if using in a water setting.
