Red Fescue
Festuca Rubra
Fesuca derives from ancient Latin and refers to Straw or a grass 'stalk'. Rubra refers to its red colour.
This ornamental grass grows approximately 3 feet in height when in flower. Its leaves are long and slender. Like many grasses, the 'flowers' are 'inflorescences': a flower-bearing stalk. Flowers are made up of seed clusters. It is dark to blue-green in appearance.
It likes sun to partial shade. In the wild, it may be found practically anywhere, in both dry and wet conditions. It is to be located in open situations such as meadows and pastures, along the coastline, in mountain terrain, by the side of the road and even in woodland or marshland.
