This is an ornamental grass. Depending on climate, it will bloom from the beginning of April through to the beginning of July producing 'flowers' with brown and green tones. Like many such plants it is grown for the foliage which is grey-green though may be tipped with brown throughout the year.

This plant prefers sun to partial shade.

In the wild, it can be found in areas such as woodland and by the side of the road.
