Stellaria Holostea
For Stellaria, literally think 'stellar' as in Stars. Holostrea derives from the greek word 'holosteon', which is a reference to a whole bone. It is used contemptuously but somewhat inaccurately to indicate a weak plant, no doubt in reference to its slender stems.
This perennial grows in height from 12 to 18 inches approximately, though can reach a little higher. The stems are slender and the flowers star-like individually, creating a profusion of small white/almost white flowers.
The bloom time is around late spring to early summer, around April to June, so it is a good plant for some early flowers. It can tolerate the sun but prefers some partial shade at some time during the day.
Birds, butterflies and bees can all be attracted to this plant.
