Ragged Robin
Lychnis Flos-Cuculi
The word Lychnos derives from the Greek meaning lamp. It is believed this is a reference to the once use
of this plant for a wick. Flos-cuculi means Cuckoo Flower.
This perennial grows from 1 to 3 feet in height. It blooms from late spring into mid summer - May to July
generally - producing vibrant pink flowers that are shaped like a five-pointed star but are quite frayed in
appearance making this plant attractive and unusual.
It likes sun with some shade and it loves moist situations, so is ideally suited for water gardens and
features.
