Viola Riviniana
'Violet'. Riviniana is a reference to a German botanist of the 17th Century: August Quirinus Bachmann,
also known in the Latin as Augustus Quirinur Rivinus. This plant may also be known as the 'common' Dog
Violet.
This perennial usually grows around 6 inches. It may reach a height of 12 inches. It likes some shade
though don't plant in a dark corner of the garden. It blooms in the earlier part of the summer, anytime
from late spring. The flowers are a rich blue-violet shade. It is a plant food for some butterflies. Lovely
to look at, it is not known for fragrance.
